“I never want him to think he can’t accomplish something because of his heart condition. I want Kenzo to grow up knowing he can achieve his hopes and dreams – and Beyond Blindness is helping us make that possible.”

Kenzo was born with a rare genetic condition affecting his heart and other vital systems. With nearly a year of in-home services through Beyond Blindness, he began reaching exciting milestones—sitting up, taking his first steps, improving fine motor skills, and showing better emotional regulation. He eventually transitioned to early intervention services.
As a student at Beyond Blindness, Kenzo has thrived in an inclusive classroom environment that has allowed him to build relationships with his peers. “Seeing your child thrive in an environment outside of your home is encouraging — it shows that there are people who will take the time to understand Kenzo and his diagnosis,” said Karla, Kenzo’s mom.
Kenzo’s family has found community at Beyond Blindness. “Every event they host makes us feel genuinely included and warmly welcomed. You can truly see how much the families and staff care about the kids and the work they’re doing – it means so much.”
Kenzo’s journey at Beyond Blindness is a powerful example of the profound impact a holistic and comprehensive approach can have on children and their families. Through the Journey of Care®, Kenzo greatly benefited from early intervention, educational enrichment, and family support—each a vital element of this integrated model.
