The recent government shutdown has created real and pressing challenges for families across the country. From delays in food assistance programs like SNAP and WIC, to energy and utility hardships, childcare disruptions, and the emotional toll of compounding pressures, many households are feeling the strain.

At Beyond Blindness, we're here to help. We've gathered a list of resources to support families during this difficult time, and we're committed to walking alongside you with care and compassion.

For families receiving CalFresh, your benefits may be delayed in November due to the ongoing government shutdown. Orange County residents can visit 211oc.org or call 2-1-1 for help with food, housing, or utility costs.

What Happens to Head Start During a Government Shutdown?

Beyond Blindness Head Start and Early Head Start will stay open during the government shutdown. We want you to know that our program will stay open, and we do not expect any changes to our services.

Head Start is funded by grants, so our staff are not federal government workers. This means our funding should not stop unless a shutdown lasts until July 2026. If a shutdown goes on for a long time or slows down funding renewal, we will give updates to families and staff. Head Start will keep supporting children and families, even when things in Washington, D.C. are uncertain. If you have any questions regarding our Head Start programs, please reach out to our Chief Program Officer, Meredith Cagle at meredith.cagle@beyondblindness.org.
